REACH Heritage Award 2012

Being given this award was a singularly satisfying event for me and my team at MGPL. We have been working closely with REACH in researching, scripting and documenting of heritage preservation and conservation activity. This has generated a passion in us to learn more of our heritage and also to teach this information to children. If we could light a spark in the minds of children to get interested and involved in our heritage then our heritage will become immortal.

List of Recipients of the 2012 REACH Heritage Award

  • B R Ram Kumar for his service to Heritage Studies and documentation on heritage sites like Ajanta, Ellora, Sites in the life of The Buddha and Uttiramerur. Through his media firm, MGPL, Ram Kumar has launched India Learns India a program to educate children and increase their awareness of various aspects of Indian history, heritage and historical sites. India Learns India is now being used by over 1,60,000 school students in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
  • Prof Enamul Haque from Bangladesh, is the incumbent Chairman & Academic Director of International Centre for study of Bengal Art. He has been responsible for the preservation of over 1000 temples in Bangladesh.
  • Raja Bhosle is the Hereditary Trustee of Thanjavur group of temples. He is the descendant from Maharaja Venkaji, the founder of the Tanjavur Maratha dynasty. He has worked for the restoration of 88 temples in and around Thanjavur.
